A Fun Day Trip

This past Tuesday we decided to spend a day down at Daytona Beach.  Bryan had never been and it had been 1997 since the last time I was there.  We got there around noon and headed straight for the boardwalk.  It was terribly hot and we wished that we had brought our swim suits.  The water was so pretty.

We walked along the pier which isn't a very long one.

We enjoyed the views from the pier.

We decided to see more of the area and headed south towards Ponce Inlet to see the lighthouse.  On the way there we ran across the Marine Science Center.  We decided to go and we are so glad that we did.  It was a small place and was a ton of fun.

They had a really cool stingray and shark touch tank.  Bryan fed the stingrays!

We loved watching them swim around.  They were so friendly!

They have a sea turtle ICU...how cool is that!  We watched them as they took care of the turtles.  Some are even hooked up to IVs.  Hopefully all of them will get better and be released into the wild.

Us with a really cool conch shell prop.

After we left the science center we went to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.  It is the tallest lighthouse in Florida.  Besides the lighthouse we could tour the whole grounds which consisted of 3 keeper's houses and a lens museum.

Views from the top!  That was a climb.  It was such a hot day and I didn't think we would make it to the top but we did and the views were awesome.

After we left the lighthouse we drove just a few minutes down to New Smyrna Beach.  We went because it is known for it's shark bites.  We didn't see a single shark.  I don't think we expected to just went down to say we went.  It ended up being a very pretty beach with a lovely downtown.  I'd love to go back and try some of the restaurants and shop.

After we left there we went back to Daytona to eat at Bubba Gumps and it didn't disappoint.  The food and atmosphere was great!  We would definitely eat there again.

After dinner we walked along the boardwalk at night.  It was a pretty sight.

We really had a great day and both of us was completely worn out.  We would love to go back and stay for a couple of days and we may do that sometime.  I usually don't like the bigger, more commercialized beaches but Daytona is nice.

We are really enjoying living in Florida.  It is such a fun state with so much to see and do.  There will never be a dull moment or a lack of places to see and do.  Much better than boring Greensboro!!   Until our next adventure!
