Fountain of Youth Archaeology Park
This past Tuesday for date day we went down to St Augustine. We went to the Fountain of Youth Archaeology Park. It was so much fun! This park commemorates the 1513 arrival of Juan Ponce de Leon in Florida. It also is the site of the 1565 establishment of the first European colony founded by Pedro Menendez de Aviles. There is so much history in St Augustine and we are convinced we are learning so much more than we were ever taught in school.
Ponce de Leon is attached to the legend of the Fountain of Youth which was discovered when he arrived in 1513 and it is still here today. We drank from it and maybe just maybe it works. We couldn't not at least try to believe.
One of the things we enjoyed most was the free roaming peacocks. They were so neat to see and one of the hens had 4 little babies that were 2 weeks old.
We enjoyed the cannon firing and going up to the lookout tower where we could see out over where the village use to be. The University of Florida is still digging in some places.
We enjoyed the planetarium show that taught us how they navigated back then by just using the stars. I didn't quite get it so I know we would have ended up so lost.
We really enjoyed the park. I also enjoy a relaxing day where we can just play tourist. We are so blessed to live where we do.
After the park we ate at Harry's Seafood & Grille. The food was amazing and our server was awesome! Harry's is New Orleans Cajun food. I had the shrimp & grits and Bryan had salmon with a bourbon honey soy glaze. For dessert we tried the Oreo beignets. They were so good! We will definitely head back there again!
I am so glad we are getting back into our date days. I already have next month's in mind!
